Masters Level Counsellor (RCC Candidate)

Danielle (she/her) recently has completed the requirements for a Master of Counselling degree from City University. As a full-time active firefighter who has been on the job for over 12 years, a the daughter of a retired firefighter and is married to a firefighter, Danielle has first-hand knowledge of the unique culture and occupational stressors of first responders. Her experiences on the job and the high level of traumatic exposure that comes with it inspired Danielle to support those in the first responder community, both active and retired.

As a former high performance athlete playing ice hockey both professionally and for the Women’s National Team, Danielle brings her lived experience into the counselling room. She takes a strength-based and goal-oriented approach by encouraging clients to use the strengths they have to achieve their desired goals. Danielle does so from a person-centred lens while integrating various approaches such as Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Somatic Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques.

Danielle is a mother of two thoughtful and engaging teenage children. She would trade her athletic ability to be a natural musician and spends much of her free time attempting to learn how to play the guitar. She is also heavily involved with the Canuck Alumni Association and plays multiple charity hockey games each year in support of kids in sports, homelessness, and communities in need.

Danielle’s goal is to work collaboratively with clients, providing empathy and warmth, to achieve their goals and live their most meaningful and positive life.

Gemma is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) and a member of the BC Professional Firefighter’s Association Mental Health Taskforce. She provides counselling, EMDR, and music therapy services for people who are committed to making change to achieve a fuller, peaceful, and satisfying life.

With over 10 years of experience working as a therapist in a high acuity, burns and trauma Unit, she understands the unique occupational stressors and culture that come with being a first responder and a frontline healthcare worker in addition to all walks of life. Gemma’s therapeutic approach is to support and collaborate with clients as they heal, gather strength, and discover solutions by empowering clients to find peace, renewal, and balance in their lives.

A graduate from the University of British Columbia’s Masters in Counselling Psychology program, Gemma’s thesis research examined firefighter occupational stress, social supports and attitudes towards seeking psychological help for behavioural health.

Laura (she/her) has a Masters of music therapy from Concordia University and is delighted to be interning at Frontline Counselling. With over 10 years of experience working as a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) in medical settings, long-term care facilities, non-profit organizations, and private practice, she brings a wealth of experience and compassion to those she supports.

Laura provides counselling and music therapy services for individuals who desire to discover their authentic voice and live in a way that aligns with their own sense of health and wellness. Her aim is to empower her clients by creating space for them to freely explore their own individual needs, goals, and identity. She is passionate about providing ethical and effective counseling for neurodiverse individuals, people exploring questions of faith and spirituality, as well as those who are navigating changing seasons of life. Laura enjoys helping others by using a client-centered approach that draws on a variety of strengths-based approaches. She is proficient in using creative tools such as songwriting, lyric analysis, and other forms of creative expression to unlock insight and meaning when words fail.

Laura is the current President of the Music Therapy Association of British Columbia and to support BC music therapists through this new position. In this role, she hopes to connect, equip, and empower music therapists and advance the field of music therapy. Outside of professional practice, Laura enjoys exploring the pacific northwest, devouring Vancouver’s food culture, and surrounding herself with opportunities to enjoy live music.
